Groups Update
23/2/2008
Here's a round-up of the latest activities of student groups around the country:
- Aberdeen University Vegan and Vegetarian Society
- Newcastle University Animal Welfare Society
- Nottingham University Vegetarian and Vegan Society
- Aberdeen University Vegetarian and Vegan Society
- At Aberdeen, events were held to coincide with Viva!'s National Dairy Day of Action to draw attention to the plight of dairy cows and their calves. Whilst everybody is already on the exam and coursework trail, it is great to hear from societies still getting stuck in. Aberdeen hope to end this academic year in style, so keep your eyes peeled for news!
- Newcastle University Animal Welfare Society
- It is fabulous to announce the formation of the brand new Newcastle University Animal Welfare Society. The aims of the group are: campaigning for the well-being of all animals both locally and nationally, educating people about animal welfare issues and raising money for animal welfare charities. Meetings are on Tuesday evenings in the Students' Union so nip along and say hello!
- Nottingham University Vegetarian and Vegan Society
- Nottingham University are incredibly proud to announce their nomination by PETA as 'Most Veggie-Friendly UK University' just in time to coincide with their Vegan Society accreditation - making them the first English University to receive such accreditation.
- Vegsoc also hosted a visit from renowned activist Keith Mann, who talked briefly about his experiences, his best-selling book and also screened critically acclaimed documentary 'Behind the Mask'. The other side of Easter promises to be equally exciting, with a week of veggie events and our 'Big Veg Pledge' encouraging people to try vegetarianism. We're especially looking forward to two (count 'em, two!) vegan buffet meals in one week - yum. The society continues to work with the SU for better vegan and vegetarian labeling and options.
